Ferrari has officially confirmed that McLaren driverCarlos Sainzwill be joining the team to replaceSebastian Vettel从2021年开始。

Vettel and Ferrari released a joint statement on Tuesday to confirm the overnight rumours that the two parties had failed to reach an agreement over a contract extension for the four-time World Champion.

Later on the very same day, it emerged that Sainz was in the advanced stages of negotiations with Ferrari to replace Vettel and only the minor details needed to be resolved. Now they have, with Sainz signing a two-year contract.

McLaren stole Ferrari’s limelight a little by being first to announce Daniel Ricciardo was joining Lando Norris in 2021, which of course all but confirmed Sainz’s move to to the Scuderia.

“I am very happy that I will be driving for Scuderia Ferrari in 2021 and I’m excited about my future with the team,” Sainz said in an official statement.

“I still have an important year ahead with McLaren Racing and I’m really looking forward to going racing again with them this season.”

Sainz has followed his good friend and compatriot Fernando Alonso in racing for the same teams in the same order, with both starting their careers at Toro Rosso (Minardi), before moving to Renault, on to McLaren and then Ferrari.

The confirmation of Sainz to Ferrari and Ricciardo to McLaren now puts all eyes on Renault withSebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso amongst the names being linked.
