Enzo Fittipaldi has put himself in Helmut Marko’s sights, the Formula 2 driver revealing the Red Bull motorsport boss congratulated him on his Spa sprint race victory.

He’s hoping to capitalise on that at a time when Red Bull’s Formula 1 line-up, both for Red Bull and AlphaTauri, is not set in stone.

The Rodin Carlin driver, one of Red Bull’s juniors, held off Sauber hopeful Théo Pourchaire to win the sprint race at the Belgian Grand Prix weekend by five seconds to his first F2 win.

Red Bull junior hopes ‘opportunities will show up’

Although he wasn’t able to repeat that feat on the Sunday in the feature race, he secured a podium to bring his tally of top-three results to four for this season.

The 22-year-old’s double podium couldn’t have come at a better time as Red Bull have yet to confirm their 2024 line-up for their junior team AlphaTauri withDaniel Ricciardo at the team on a loan spellwhile questions continue to be asked about Sergio Perez.

Fittipaldi, the grandson of two-time F1 World Champion Emerson, revealed Marko personally congratulated him after his win.

“When you are in F2, performing is the first step, so as long as I continue with this momentum into the next few race weekends, who knows what could happen,” he toldSky Sports.

“If you perform and you do very well – in the championship especially – opportunities will show up.

“So, right now what I’m focused on is continuing to do well, continuing to improve as a driver every time I go out on track, and hopefully, opportunities will show.

“Dr Marko at the race weekend congratulated me for the race victory.”

Previously a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, Fittipaldi joined Red Bull’s junior squad in November last season.

He says it’s “super amazing” to be a part of the “greatest Formula 1 team” of all time with Red Bull dominating this year’s championship with Max Verstappen.

“Max is winning every single race – he’s just so fast,” said Fittipaldi.

“And for young drivers coming up the ladders – personally, I look up to Max – he’s one of the best, if not the best of all time.

“They’re just dominating right now, and being part of the Red Bull family and a driver in the Red Bull junior team – it’s super amazing to be a part of the greatest Formula 1 team of all time.”

But while Fittipaldi may be dreaming of promotion to Formula 1 next season, the Brazilian appears to be behind rival junior Liam Lawson in the Red Bull pecking order.

Although Lawson was passed over for Nyck de Vries’ AlphaTauri seat, Marko explained to motorsport-total that’s because “the risk for him and us would be much greater” than with Ricciardo.

He added: “He drives very well in Japan and can finish the championship in peace. After the end of the season, we will evaluate how things will continue without burning Liam.”

New Zealand driver Lawson is currently racing in Super Formula where he has taken three wins in six races to sit P2 in the standings, one point behind championship leader Ritomo Miyata.
