Verstappen: Singapore result was not good enough

Arriving at the Marina Bay circuit expecting to race for the win,Max Verstappensays his P3 was a “wake-up call” in what he billed as Red Bull’s “worst” race since France.

Many predicted that the Singapore Grand Prix would be a battle between Verstappen and the Mercedes drivers for both pole position and the race win.

Instead it was Ferrari who came to the fore.

Charles Leclerc claimed pole positionwhile Verstappen was a disappointing P4, 0.6s off the pace.

It was more of the same in Sunday night’s 61-lap grand prix asSebastian Vettel claimed the win for Ferrari, heading a 1-2, while Verstappen joined the team-mates on the podium.

He, however, admits he expected more.

“Not good enough,” he said. “We came here to win and clearly didn’t.

“Yesterday [qualifying] I think was worse than today but I would say it’s a little wake-up call.

“From Austrian [Grand Prix] onwards, it’s maybe our worst race in terms of performance, where we expected to be really good.”

The Dutchman, winner of this year’s Austrian and German GPs, says Red Bull will analyse the data ahead of the next race, the Russian GP, and hopefully put in a stronger performance in Sochi.

“I have a few ideas why it went wrong so we will analyse all of them and see if we can already be better in Sochi.

“The layout is not that amazing for us but you can clearly see if the car is working through corners or not.

“I think here, clearly, in too many corners the car was not working like I wanted it to.

“We’ll go home and see what we can do better.”
