Zak Brown on the one thing that ‘frustrates’ him about Lando Norris

McLaren boss Zak Brown has revealed the one minor habit Lando Norris has that annoys him.

Lando Norris is heading into his fifth season in Formula 1, where he continues to race with McLaren on a long-term deal.

The British driver has become one of the stars of the sport since his debut at the 2019 Australian Grand Prix, rising to become a consistent ‘best-of-the-rest’ challenger behind the top teams and occasionally managing to disrupt the podium finishers.

Norris became McLaren’s leading light over the past two seasons, as he stamped his authority all over the struggling Daniel Ricciardo – the highly-rated eight-time race winner failing to trouble Norris on a consistent basis.

While Norris has impressed McLaren with his on-track prowess and dedicated work ethic, the 23-year-old does manage to occasionally irritate his boss Zak Brown – however, the British driver’s transgressions are far from serious.

Zak Brown reveals Lando Norris’ only bad habit…

“What frustrates me about Lando?” Brown ponderedduring an interview with the UK’s GQ Magazine.

“He’s been five minutes late more than once. If we’re supposed to leave at 8.00, it might be 8.07. The great thing about him is he is very honest and owns everything. And he’s definitely improved!”

“I think we get the best out of him; he’s more talkative and engaged,” Brown explained. “He’s able to let his hair down. It’s like family.”

It’s Norris’ unflappability that has impressed his boss the most, as Brown laughed.

“When he first went up against Fernando Alonso, it was like another day at the office. I think that calmness and coolness is why he’s so consistent.

“I think he’s got another 10 to 15 years ahead of him. As long as we can get him a car, he’ll be a World Champion.

“He takes the things that he needs to take seriously, very seriously. But he also knows that we’re in a fun business, racing cars.”

Having first signed Norris to McLaren’s roster of junior talent back in 2017, the faith shown in the British driver led McLaren to sign him until the end of the 2025 season – taking him through until he’s turned 26 years old.

Brown said there’s no doubt Norris knows how to deliver at the highest level the sport requires.

“He had pretty much won everything he’d ever sat in at a very young age, and in his first time doing it,” Brown explained of his initial signing.

“All of that means he’s an extremely special talent. He knows how to get the best out of a race car and put the car to its limits.

“He’s also able to very articulately convey what that car is doing because he has such a good feel for it; his technical feedback is excellent.”
