Bernie Ecclestone has issued some rather harsh advice to Mick Schumacher as he’s told the former Haas driver to “forget” the Formula 1 dream.
Backed by Ferrari as a junior driver, Schumacher was promoted to Formula 1 in 2021 on the back of his Formula 2 championship success with Prema Racing.
He, however, wasn’t able to repeat those performances when he raced for Haas, one too many crashes costing the driver his Formula 1 race seat.
Unable to balance those with points-scoring finishes, team boss Guenther Steiner informed the driver on the eve of last year’s season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix that he would not be extending his contract.
That left Schumacher without any options for a race seat with the 24-year-old instead signing with Mercedes as their reserve driver for the 2023 season.
Ecclestone doubts F1 will ever see him on the back on the grid.
“He has to forget this dream, because sooner or later we all wake up from a dream,” he toldRTL.
“He has to forget that and start thinking about what the alternative is and try to pursue that.”

The 92-year-old was left to lament that Mercedes reserve driver’s father Michael Schumacher is not in a position to help his son achieve success.
“I think he needs someone who really wants to lead him to success and takes care of him the whole time,” he said.
And Ecclestone doesn’t believe Schumacher’s mother Corinna nor manager Sabine Kehm are able to assist either.
“They’re not the kind of people who can help him,” he said. “They help him in many things, but not for a career as a Formula 1 driver.”
The former F1 supremo also weighed in on the recent fake AI chatbot ‘interview’ with Michael Schumacher that appeared in German tabloid magazine Die Aktuelle.
The magazine published a headline article using a picture of the seven-time World Champion under the banner headline “Michael Schumacher, The First Interview, World Sensation”.
Adding that it “sounds deceptively real”, the publication faced wide-spread condemnation with the family considering suing prompting editor-in-chief Anne Hoffmann to be relieved of her duties.
“I don’t think you can use the word ‘criminal’,” said Ecclestone, “but it’s bad that they have to do that to sell a newspaper.”
“It’s difficult for the family,” he added.
