Aston Martinwill begin work on their new state-of-the-art factory “imminently” following confirmation of their purchase of new land.

The team, which transitioned from Racing Point over the winter break, had originally planned to be up and running in their new facility at Silverstone midway through this year.

But those plans were put on hold due to Covid-19 and the team said last July that their new aim would be to open in mid-2022, later predicted to be ready in August of that year.

While there has been no new update on the timescale of the project, it has now been confirmed construction work will start very soon following their reported multi-million pound purchase of land from farmer Steve Tustian.

Quoted byGPFans, Aston Martin team principal Otmar Szafnauer said: “It [construction] is starting imminently. We will start with preparing the groundwork, removing some of the trees and that’s starting now.

“It’s a great location. It will be closer to the Dadford Road, so you can turn in from there and you will be able to see it on your way to the Silverstone roundabout at the entrance of Silverstone.

“We always had an intention to [buy the land] and sign a contract with the farmer, which we finally completed. It was nice that the farmer made a statement.”

They will be based directly opposite the historicSilverstonecircuit on the 29 acres of land at Litchlake Farm.

The team have felt they needed a change for a while, given they have used the same factory since the Jordan team moved in there ahead of their debut in Formula 1 back in 1991.

Announcing plans for the new base was one of the first actions by Lawrence Stroll after he took over the team then known as Force India, saying back then in 2018 that the new factory “will not be extravagant but fit for purpose”.

With a new state-of-the-art facility alongside their other investments, Aston Martin will be hopeful of being in a better place to achieve their goal of becoming a major force in the sport.
