Leclerc’s focus on Sauber, not the Ferrari dream

Ferrari may be the ultimate dream but Charles Leclerc insists for now his focus is firmly on Sauber and what he can bring to the team in his debut campaign.

The Ferrari protege will make his Formula 1 debut this weekend in Australia when he lines up on the grid for Sauber.

However, already there’s talk of the reigning Formula 2 champ heading to Ferrari down the line with some suggesting that may happen as early as next season.

Leclerc is not letting the chatter distract him from the job at hand, which is showing that he has what it takes as a Sauber driver.

“Honestly, no,” F1i.com reports him as having told Radio Monte Carlo when asked if he was thinking about what may happen in 2019.

“It’s so big a dream that for now I can’t imagine it as a reality.

“So I’m going to focus on 2018, which is very important for me.

“It’s my first season and I have to prove myself.

“I do have very close ties with Ferrari, I’m one of their drivers so they’re watching me, but I am not thinking about 2019.”
