‘Can’t get much worse’ for Vettel at Silverstone

After a disappointing qualifying performance,Sebastian Vettelhas said he’s been struggling to find a rhythm all weekend at the British Grand Prix

The German’s race weekend got off to the worst possible start as he was unable to run in FP1 due to an intercooler issue.

Ferrarimanaged to fix it in time for FP2, but he then faced another problem as he felt something loose near his brake pedal.

The same thing happened again on Saturday. All of this damaged his pace, as he only just made Q3 and then couldn’t do any better than P10 in the final session.

“I struggled to find the rhythm,” he said after qualifying.

“The car was not too bad but it didn’t fit me today. I was struggling yesterday with very little laps and this morning to get into the rhythm.”

Vettel also didn’t have enough pace to make it into Q3 on the medium tyre. This means that he’ll have to start on the soft tomorrow, which most see as a poor strategy.

He admits that he’s not in the best position for the Grand Prix.

“Nevertheless, I’ll try everything I can tomorrow and see what we can do,” he added.

“Looking ahead, obviously starting on the soft is not ideal but it is what it is, so we have to try and make the most of it.”

Nevertheless, given how poor his weekend has been so far, he’s optimistic that, despite the difficult position he starts in, the only way is up tomorrow.

“From my side, it was not ideal today. I am relatively confident that tomorrow will be better,” he told Channel 4.

“我不知道。我不能保证什么,but it can’t get much worse. I think it’s probably more me just making sure everything comes together.

“So not a good good session, but let’s see what we can do tomorrow.”

His team-mate Charles Leclerc meanwhile had a much better day. Not only will he start P4, but he’ll also do so on the medium compound tyre.

The two Renaults just ahead of Vettel, however, will both also be starting on the softer compound, while those behind will presumably be on mediums.
