Helmut Marko not ready to retire

He is only four years away from becoming an octogenarian and has been in his current job for nearly 15 years, but Helmut Marko insists he is not ready to call it a day.

The 76-year-old Marko has been Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz’s right-hand man since the 90s while he also helped set up the famed Red Bull junior team.

TheRed Bulldriver development programme has seen the likes ofSebastian Vettel,Daniel RicciardoandMax Verstappenall graduate to the F1 grid.

Marko’s official job title these days is Red Bull advisor and despite being in the role since 2005, as well as his advancing years, the Austrian is not pondering retirement.

“I have a deal with Mateschitz and, as long as I am mentally and physically up for the job, then I will do it,” he toldMotorsport-Total.com.

Red Bull, though, have struggled in recent years with their last title success coming in 2013 with Vettel, and the lack of success is something that’s keeping him going.

“It’s the winning that drives me. The last five years have been terrible,” he said.
