Amid the disruption to the 2020 season, it has been reported that Formula 1 has cancelled contracts with various camera staff.

Each year the sport hires a number of operators to cover each race, and with multiple events already cancelled or postponed and more likely to follow,RaceFans.netreported that these operators may have had their contracts cancelled.

“Formula 1’s contracts with its camera operators are understood to have involved specific details of who would be required for which races, and when the events would take place,” the article states.

“But with nine of the first 22 rounds already postponed or cancelled, their plans already face significant disruption.”

With no end in sight to the current crisis, the possibility of holding races behind closes door is growing, withRoss Brawn saying it’s a viable option.

RaceFans.net state that this would force the number of cameras used at each race to be reduced, but go on to say that the bulk of camera operators are expected to be rehired once a new schedule is confirmed.

“With the calendar in a state of flux, the cancellation of the camera crews’ contracts is expected to be a temporary measure until the new scheduled is confirmed, at which point the necessary staff will be rehired,” the report continued.

Races taking place without fans present may be becoming a serious option, but the director of the Dutch Grand Prixdoesn’t believe the race should go ahead without them.
