Amsterdam, Rotterdam dismiss F1 street race

Representatives from both Amsterdam and Rotterdam have poured cold water on the prospect of the Dutch Grand Prix returning as a street race.

Formula 1 commercial boss Sean Bratches recently visited the Netherlands to discuss potential locations and assess the logistics of bringing the Dutch Grand Prix back in order to capitalise on the strong support that Max Verstappen receives at other venues such as Austria and Spa.

Amsterdam and Rotterdam were highlighed as possible new hosts, but neither seem keen on doing so for the forseeable future.

“A car race should take place on a circuit, not in an old city centre,” said a spokesperson for Amsterdam’s civic administration via Motorsport.com

“Rotterdam has not been approached regarding a Formula 1 event,” added a counterpart. “So there have also been no discussions about this.

But even if Rotterdam were approached, there are too many factors preventing a race taking place any time soon.

“In the coming three years this would be unthinkable due to a renovation of the Maastunnel and a refurbishment of the Coolsingel,” added the spokesperson.

“This aside, with the City Racing events that were held earlier, there were already many who had their doubts in relation to the environmental impact and noise disturbance.”
