F1 announce ‘landmark moment’ with major F1 Academy merger unveiled

From the 2024 F1 Academy campaign each Formula 1 team will nominate a driver to compete in the series and have their livery on a car.

The all-female junior racing category, designed to create a pathway for female racers up the ladder and into Formula 1, is currently contesting its inaugural season.

There has been some criticism considering the lack of broadcasting of the series, but from next season a major escalation in the Formula 1-F1 Academy alliance has been confirmed which will strengthen the series considerably.

Formula 1-nominated drivers and liveries in F1 Academy

Five teams, those being Campos Racing, MP Motorsport, ART Grand Prix, Rodin Carlin and Prema Racing compete in F1 Academy, with each team fielding three cars to create a 15-driver grid.

And from 2024, 10 of those drivers will be chosen by the Formula 1 teams, drivers who will then see their cars kitted out in the respective liveries of the 10 F1 teams.

That means the colours of Red Bull, Mercedes, Aston Martin, Ferrari, McLaren, Alpine, Sauber, Williams, Haas and AlphaTauri will all be represented on the 2024 F1 Academy grid.

Susie Wolff, F1 Academy managing director, said: “This landmark moment not only demonstrates the depth of support for F1 Academy from across the F1 community but will inspire a whole generation of young girls to realise the opportunities both on and off track in motorsport.

“As we join the F1 calendar for next year and host F1 Academy Discover Your Drive events in the lead up to our races, I am confident that we will have a positive impact across our sport in the long term.”

Formula 1 president Stefano Domenicali added: “We created F1 Academy to bring about real and lasting change to ensure young female talent have the right system in place to follow and achieve their dreams.

“Today is a very important moment as it shows the impact the project is having and the support it is receiving from across the F1 community.”

The drivers chosen by the respective teams, as well as the “other partners” which will support the five unaffiliated competitors, will be announced in due course.
