Fernando Alonso labelled the Singapore GP a "race to forget"

Fernando Alonso is looking to move on from a “race to forget” after enduring a tough evening in Singapore.

The Spaniard was the last man to cross the line in Marina Bay after an error-filled race from both him and the team.

With Lance Stroll out before the race had begun, Aston Martin’s hopes were pinned on Alonso but they left Singapore pointless in a race for the first time this season.

Alonso had been one of the many drivers looking in potential for a good points score but that quickly came undone when he locked up heading into the pit lane, sending him over the white line and back onto the track before he then crossed the white line again to get into the pits.

跨越这条线是容易的t penalty to pick up during a race weekend and with that fresh in his mind, Alonso was then made to sit stationary for a long time as the team failed to lift his car up.

Later on, his race got even worse as he spun and was sent tumbling down the order.

“It was a race to forget,” Alonso said to Formula1.com. “Everything went wrong today. Mistake going into the pits, slow pit stop, no pace in the car.

“It’s better that it happened all in one hit – and let’s not forget it’s actually our first non-scoring race of the entire season. We came here with pretty high hopes, but Singapore is quite a unique event – race pace is really dictated by the temperature of the tyres – and maybe we went a little bit too hard.

“There are a lot of things we need to investigate from this weekend – there’s plenty to take away and improve. We need to get better. Let’s just forget about this weekend and focus on the next one in Suzuka.”

Team boss Mike Krack said that even without the pit stop issue, scoring points would have been a tough ask.

“It has been a really tough couple of days for the team in Singapore,” Krack said. “We only raced one car today and we look forward to seeing Lance back with us in Japan.

“Fernando’s race came undone during the Virtual Safety Car when the rear jack did not engage properly during the pitstop. We need to analyse exactly what happened. Even without this issue, scoring points would have been difficult today.

“We will move on and learn from these difficult days. There is a lot of work ahead of us: we must understand where we can find more performance.

“There is still a long way to go this season – seven more races with plenty of opportunities and points available.”
