Ricciardo limps away from heavy FP2 crash

Daniel Ricciardo was seen leaving his R.S.20 with a limp after crashing heavily during FP2 at the Styrian Grand Prix.

Free Practice Two had been underway for just under 20 minutes when Ricciardo brought out the red flags.

At the penultimate corner Ricciardo carried too much speed into the fast right curve and completely lost the rear of his Renault before sliding through the gravel and into the tyre barrier.

He was talking to his team over the radio, but took a while to emerge from the wrecked R.S.20.

When he did leave the cockpit, he was seen limping quite heavily towards the medical car.

Due to the heavy impact of the crash, Ricciardo was sent to the medical centre where he was subsequently given the all-clear. However, he was still spotted walking gingerly back to the garage afterwards.

Thankfully it does not appear to be anything severe as the Aussie was back on the pit wall chatting away.

It could prove to be a costly crash for the Aussie with FP2 potentially setting the grid for the race if the heavy rain that is forecast for Saturday does arrive.

The other option could be to hold qualifying on Sunday, similar to what happened in Japan last year due to the typhoon which passed near Suzuka.
