Christian Horner has revealed there’s no way Toto Wolff can get in touch with him easily…

Toto Wolff and Christian Horner are well-known for their love/hate relationship (which is probably more of a hate/hate deal really!), in their respective roles as team bosses of Mercedes and Red Bull.

The pair don’t waste any opportunity to take pot-shots at each other through the media, maintaining an ice-cold professionalism towards each other when they do have to be in the same room together for media functions or F1 team boss meetings.

Their snarky relationship boiled over into outright animosity at the height of the 2021 title fight as their fighting mirrored that of Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton’s on-track battle, although tensions have cooled in the months since as Mercedes have not been able to compete with Red Bull at the head of the field since the ground-effect rules were introduced for ’22.

Christian Horner: It’s good to have rivalry in F1

Appearing on thePardon My Take podcastin the run-up to the Monaco Grand Prix, Horner shed some light on the current state of his relationship with his Mercedes counterpart.

“I think he’s blocked [on my phone],” Horner laughed.

“It’s fine. I mean, look, there’s healthy competition, and it’s good to have rivalry in sport.

“They did a lot of winning, they’re a great team, and now we’re doing our thing and we’re tending not to look behind and looking forward.

Spanish GP could have triggered big change in Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff meeting

“It’s not really about Toto. It’s about Ferrari, about Aston Martin. And he’s no doubt got his challenges, so I’ll let him focus on those.

“It’s boring if everybody just loves each other and whatever. You’ve got to have a rivalry and it’s got to fire people up.”

Toto Wolff: I live in Christian Horner’s head

Speaking earlier this year, Wolff couldn’t resist taking a swipe at Horner in an interview with the UK’s Times newspaper.

“I am living in his head rent-free,” Toto Wolff said.

“The guy is obsessed.

“Every second that I spend on talking about Horner is a waste of time in my life.”
