Alex Albon warned Williams he wouldn’t avoid ‘f****** dirty’ Sergio Perez’s next lunge

Alex Albon was furious with Sergio Perez at the Singapore Grand Prix, so much so he warned Williams the next time the “f****** dirty” Red Bull driver came close to hitting him, he wouldn’t take avoiding action.

Perez made several moves on Albon with the Thai-British racer complaining to Williams that he had to take avoiding action more than once.

But tired of Perez’s antics, he let Williams know that the next time he wouldn’t by moving out of the way.

“He’s just so f****** dirty,” he said over the radio.

“He [Perez] tried to do that move to me two or three times before and I had to miss him. I had to pull out last time to stop him from hitting me.

“So sorry, but I can’t do that every single time he tries to take a lunge and take avoiding action.

“I thought he would have this one under control but he didn’t.”

The next time Perez tried to overtake Albon, he hit the Williams driver as they went through Turn 13, the tight left-hander after the Anderson Bridge. Albon was briefly up against the barrier but managed to avoid hitting it.

The stewards deemed Perez to be solely to blame for the incident and slapped him with a five-second time penalty and one penalty point as a result. He, however, had a big enough gap over ninth-placed Liam Lawson that he held onto eighth and four World Championship points.

Perez felt that was harsh.

“With the Alex incident, there was nothing there,” he said. “It was just a racing incident.”

He also felt an earlier Safety Car incident with Albon was the wrong call by the stewards who opted not to take action against the Williams driver.

“Also with the Safety Car, I was ahead of him and Alex overtook me under the Safety Car, but the system is not good enough so they couldn’t tell at the time that I was ahead,” he said. “It’s how things are.”

Albon believes Perez cost him a top-ten showing.

“We did the race perfectly,” he said. “I was running P9, was about to overtake Liam for P8, then I got dive-bombed by Checo into Turn 13.

“He T-boned me and I went straight on into the wall, I had to reverse out, I dropped to 13th and I finished 11th so we should have scored points today and we didn’t.”
