Pit lane start for Kubica after Q1 crash

Robert Kubicawill start the Japanese Grand Prix as Williams had to change his chassis following his Q1 crash.

The Polish driver brought out the red flags inSunday morning’s qualifyingwhen he touched the grass and steered into the barriers at the final corner.

“I paid a high price for a relatively small off,” he said.

“I was on the grass and the wall came quite quickly.”

Thankfully Williams, despite being short on parts, do have enough to change Kubica’s chassis and rebuild the car but it does mean a pit lane start for the driver.

Q1 also sawKevin Magnussencrash his Haas, same spot, as a gust of wind sent the Dane into the barriers.

He’ll start P19.

Meanwhile it is a Ferrari 1-2 at the front after Sebastian Vettel claimed pole position ahead of Charles Leclerc.

Mercedes make up the second row with Valtteri Bottas in front of Lewis Hamilton.
