Nyck de Vries is the subject of Ryanair’s latest poking of fun at the F1 world, with the former AlphaTauri driver bearing the brunt of a brutal joke at his expense.

Ryanair have become well known for constantly making jokes on their social media channels that take aim at current events in Formula 1, with Nyck de Vries the latest target of their marketing campaign.

Over the British Grand Prix weekend, Ryanair posted a picture of Sergio Perez on one of their flights after the Mexican failed to make Q3 for the fifth time in a row. The caption simply read “Only front row Sergio Perez is guaranteed”, but the Red Bull driver wasn’t the only one mocked by Michael O’Leary’s company.

Following the news of De Vries’ axing from AlphaTauri, with the Dutch driver replaced after just 10 races in order to bring back Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo, Ryanair took to social media to post a screengrab of someone weighing up flight and car rental options for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Taki Inoue lends voice of support for Nyck De Vries

Former 1990s F1 driver Taki Inoue, who became famous as a Footwork driver in 1995 after being run over by the Safety Car, has developed a cult following on social media for his open honesty about his lack of talent as a Formula 1 driver.

Often offering an irreverent take on what’s going on in the sport, Inoue said he couldn’t understand why De Vries had been fired in favour of Ricciardo.

“Normally Sh*t driver who drives F1 with money like a Taki Inoue loses the seat at the middle of season,” he wrote.

“I can’t understand why Nick de Vries lost his seat at middle of season.

“Up to F1 his racing career is one of the best out of present F1 drivers. Thug Life !!”
