Following Red Bull’s decision to axe Nyck de Vries from the AlphaTauri line-up, his past comments relating to Lando Norris and Alex Albon have unfortunately resurfaced.

后一个棘手的开始新秀竞选mula 1, Red Bull decided that 10 rounds was enough to determine that it was time to usher in change at AlphaTauri.

De Vries then drops out of the line-up, and taking his place is Daniel Ricciardo, who returns to the grid on loan from Red Bull after impressing the team in his Silverstone Pirelli tyre test.

Nyck de Vries claimed Lando Norris and Alex Albon were no better

Understandably, this huge decision from Red Bull was and continues to be the talk of the town, and sadly for De Vries, this has led to his previous comments, where he claimed Norris and Albon were no better than him back in their Formula 2 days, being dug back up in embarrassing fashion on social media.

It came after both of those drivers enjoyed stellar races at Silverstone, Norris returning to the podium with a P2 finish as McLaren surged into that ‘best of the rest’ position behind Red Bull, while Albon added another four points to his and Williams’ tally with a P8 finish.

When speaking to Dutch newspaper Friesch Dagblad ahead of what proved to be his Formula 2 title-winning campaign in 2019, De Vries would offer his thoughts on Norris and Albon who he had competed against in the past season, who both graduated to Formula 1 for 2019.

“I do not want to be arrogant at all, but Norris and Albon were in my eyes really no better than me,” said De Vries.

“Norris won only one race, Albon won four and I won three.”

Nyck de Vries can bounce back

It is safe to say that De Vries’ full-time F1 career went nowhere near as well as hoped, with the highlight being that 2022 Monza P9 on his stand-in Williams appearance if this is to be the end of his time on the Formula 1 grid.

But, De Vries’ wider career shows that once he dusts himself down and gets back at it, whichever team and series he ends up joining next will have landed themselves a very capable racing driver.

De Vries after all is a former Formula 2 champ and Formula E World Champion, the kind of achievements that only a very solid racing driver can pull off, while he also has multiple class wins in endurance racing to his name as well.

Formula 1 then may not have worked out for De Vries, but still only 28, there is no reason why he cannot enjoy plenty more success in his motorsport career ahead.
