Nyck de Vries set for first on-track return since Red Bull axing

Nyck de Vries will be back behind the wheel in the Netherlands next weekend, in a demonstration run of a Formula 2 car at Assen.

The former AlphaTauri driver lost his seat in somewhat cut-throat fashion after the British Grand Prix, with Daniel Ricciardo drafted in to replace the Dutchman after a successful tyre test at Silverstone.

While he underperformed compared to Yuki Tsunoda, he will be driving a racing car at Assen during the JACK’s Racing Day weekend on 12 and 13 August.

Nyck de Vries back on track next weekend

The former Formula 2 and Formula E champion will head to the Dutch circuit to drive an MP Motorsport Formula 2 car in demonstration runs for the weekend, which is billed as the largest combined car, motorcycle and karting event in Europe.

De Vries said of the event: “JACK’s Racing Day is one of the most diverse and accessible racing events in Europe. It’s great to see that our sport is so alive in the Netherlands. I look forward to seeing everyone in Assen!”

Event organiser Hilde van Dam added: “Our event is known for making the international racing world accessible where we have already welcomed many a top driver to Assen.

“The fact that we managed to secure a top Dutch driver this year is extra special. Like the many tens of thousands of fans, we are looking forward to a wonderful race weekend.”

Nyck de Vries linked with drives elsewhere

Since his abrupt dismissal by AlphaTauri, the 28-year-old has been linked with a potential return to Formula E, endurance racing and even calls with Formula 1 teams,according to his manager Guillaume Le Goff.

“There is plenty of interest in Nyck,” Le Goff toldFormule1.nl. “I’ve had quite a few calls in the last week.

“Endurance, Le Mans, GTs, Formula E, also Formula 1. We’ll see.”
