‘Hurt’ Nyck de Vries breaks his silence after Red Bull sacking

Nyck de Vries has issued a statement in the wake of his recent firing from Red Bull’s AlphaTauri F1 team.

The Dutch driver has had his rookie Formula 1 season cut short, with Red Bull opting to replace De Vries with the returning Daniel Ricciardo for the remainder of the 2023 championship following a tough 10 races for the AlphaTauri driver.

The announcement was made by Red Bull almost a week ago, with De Vries choosing to maintain radio silence in the immediate aftermath of the bombshell from Red Bull.

Having passed up his planned Formula E season in order to jump ship to AlphaTauri in F1 when Red Bull came calling after his impressive substitute performance for Williams at last year’s Italian Grand Prix, De Vriestook to social mediato break his silence.

“A short note from me…” he wrote.

“After recent events, I decided to take some time for myself away from social media, which I will continue to do.

“I would like to thank Red Bull and Scuderia AlphaTauri for the opportunity to live my dream.

“Of course, it hurts that the F1 chance I dreamed of for so long ended prematurely. But life is not a destination, it’s a journey, and sometimes you have to take the hard road to get where you want to be.

“I am grateful for our privileged lives, proud of our journey and my family. This is just another experience, we move on and look forward to the next chapter.

“Thank you to everyone for your kind and encouraging messages in the past week. It’s been heart-warming to feel your support.”

De Vries also took the opportunity to clarify that he had not made the comments regarding the nature of Red Bull’s championship win in 2021 which had appeared in the press.

“PS: I received some interesting articles about things I’ve said in the last week,” he said.

“For clarity, I haven’t spoken to any media, and for the time being I’ll enjoy some me time. Wishing you all a nice summer.”
