Max Verstappen surprises Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris with Red Bull upgrade demands

Max Verstappen had Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris laughing, perhaps nervously, with the lengthy list of upgrades on his RB19 wish list.

The RB19 continues to be the all-conquering force of the F1 2023 campaign, Red Bull having taken their 10th win from 10 at the British Grand Prix, which also saw them equal a long-standing McLaren record with their 11th win in a row.

And with team boss Christian Horner having been saying for several races now that Red Bull already have an eye on next season’s RB20, such is the extent of their dominance, it had been anticipated that we will not see much more tinkering with the RB19 from this point on.

That is not the case though, as when speaking to reporters including PlanetF1.com after his British GP win, Verstappen revealed that upgrades for the RB19 will be unleashed at the next round in Hungary.

“We will put some upgrades on the car there and hopefully that will work well,” Verstappen confirmed.

That then led to the obvious question mark of where Red Bull will be looking to improve a challenger which is already untouchable for the competition.

Norris and Hamilton chuckled along, and heading into the Hungarian Grand Prix there will be great intrigue surrounding Norris’ McLaren team, who after taking a clear step forward in Austria with their upgrade package, made further gains when both Norris and Oscar Piastri got the refined version for Silverstone.

The tight and twisty Hungaroring then will represent a different challenge for McLaren, with Norris still seeing low-speed performance as a weakness for his team, while it remains to be seen whether Red Bull can unlock further performance via their Hungary upgrade plans.
