While Max Verstappen has surged to the top of the Formula 1 mountain, pundit Martin Brundle’s UK poll has shown him that Lewis Hamilton remains the overwhelming fan favourite.

Hamilton and Verstappen went head-to-head in an epic battle for the 2021 World Championship title, a duel which saw Verstappen snatch the crown from Hamilton on the last lap of the season, denying Hamilton a record-breaking eighth World title.

Since then Hamilton has not had another shot at that holy grail of Formula 1 achievements, with Verstappen and Red Bull having established dominance over the grid.

Lewis Hamilton still huge fan favourite

With 10 rounds of F1 2023 remaining for Hamilton to avoid a second winless campaign in succession, all while Verstappen has become the star of the show, Brundle was keen to use the summer break to poll fans and find out whether Hamilton support is wavering. He found out it is not, with 95 per cent throwing their support behind Hamilton.

“So I’ve been out and about in the summer break. Met many and all kinds of F1 fans who want to engage which is really great,” Brundle wrote in a social media post.

“Always thank them for their passion about our sport and ask them who they support. 95% have said Lewis, so there you have it. Just a Marty poll but fact.”

Hamilton’s points tally stands at 148 to Russell’s 99, with a P3 finish in theDrivers’ Championshiprealistically the best now that Hamilton, who is just a single point behind Fernando Alonso in that position, can achieve.

The goal then for Hamilton and Mercedes is to return to the title scene for F1 2024 and give Hamilton’s loyal fanbase something to shout about once more.
