Lewis Hamilton responds to Fernando Alonso’s team-mate reunion wish

Lewis Hamilton would be open to becoming Fernando Alonso’s team-mate again as the Spaniard hopes will happen, but Hamilton does not think it will.

The pair are certainly no strangers to racing for the same team, having done so back in 2007 at McLaren, that being Hamilton’s rookie Formula 1 season.

It was far from a happy union though, Alonso exiting the team at the end of that season, with the rivalry between the pair, albeit growing less volatile as the years have passed, still existing to this day.

Undoubtedly, the relationship between Hamilton and Alonso in present F1 time involves a great deal of respect, the veteran duo currently battling in the ‘best of the rest’ cluster behind Red Bull, as Hamilton’s Mercedes team and Alonso’s Aston Martin squad search for a way to end the Red Bull dominance.

And speaking a few months back, the 42-year-old Alonso said he would “love” for he and Hamilton to end their F1 careers as team-mates.

Hamilton would be happy to do that as well, but the issue is he cannot foresee a way that this will come to pass.

“If the stars aligned, yes, I would share a team with Fernando Alonso again, but I don’t think it will happen,” said Hamilton onDAZN’s‘True Driver’ series.

Eighth World title sole focus for Lewis Hamilton

This has fuelled some speculation that Hamilton is still unconvinced whether Mercedes can put him back into the title conversation which he has been absent from since 2021, having previously stated that the record eighth World title is that ultimate goal he is chasing.

And Hamilton re-emphasising his laser-focused pursuit of title number eight will only further up that pressure on Mercedes to deliver.

“I want to win my eighth title,” Hamilton declared.

“I have my sights set on my next World Championship, I’m completely focused on that and I don’t want any distractions.”

Hamilton has not taken to the top step of the Formula 1 podium since the penultimate round of the 2021 campaign, with a pair of P2 finishes in Australia and Spain serving as his strongest results of the F1 2023 campaign so far.

Hamilton’s tally of 121 points places him P4 in theDrivers’ Championship, one position and 16 points behind Alonso.
