Lewis Hamilton wants ‘serious conversations’ with Mercedes

Hamilton was one of the big gainers from the appearance of the Safety Car at his home race, allowing him to bump McLaren’s Oscar Piastri off the podium, while his soft compound tyres in the final stint had just enough juice left to quell a fightback from the Aussie rookie.

However, while happy to soak in the adulations of the fans from the podium, Hamilton says the recent surge of performance from McLaren, following the initial introduction of their upgrade package in Austria, shows Mercedes have plenty of work to do.

“We have a lot of work to do,” he told Sky Sports F1.

“I think I know exactly what we need to do, and I think we’ve got to have some serious conversations about what are we going to do moving forward.”

Christian Horner lands a blow to Daniel Ricciardo’s Red Bull hopes

After Sergio Perez made it five races in a row without a Q3 appearance, by falling at the first stage of qualifying, it re-ignited speculation that Red Bull could look to their reserve driver Ricciardo to potentially replace the struggling Mexican racer.

Ricciardo does have a three-day tyre test coming up at Silverstone where Red Bull will assess where he is truly at for performance.

But, it seems his idea of a “fairytale” return to Red Bull to complete his F1 career is not on the brink of coming to pass.

“It’s not something that we’re planning, that’s for certain,” Horner told media including PlanetF1.com.

It was not exactly a positive surprise, as having watched on as Verstappen claimed a sixth victory in a row, Hamilton and Norris then had to laugh along as Verstappen jokingly reeled off the areas where he hopes to see the all-conquering Red Bull RB19 challenger upgraded.

That included the DRS, which is already a weapon of that RB19 which rivals cannot find an answer for.

There is some legitimate concern though for the likes of Norris and Hamilton, as Verstappen was serious when he said upgrades are coming for the next round in Hungary.

Lance Stroll and Pierre Gasly to meet in the ‘parking lot’

So, while Gasly was far from pleased with Sainz and made his anger clear in a physical way, it seems that may have been just the warm-up for a scrap with Stroll.

Thankfully, Stroll was of course joking, the suggestion that he and Gasly would settle their differences after their Silverstone crash in the “parking lot” a further implication of a very tough Sunday at Silverstone for Gasly.
