Williams switch Kubica to spare chassis

Robert Kubicawill run Williams’ spare chassis from third practice onward with Williams saying his previous chassis is “not repairable at the track.”

The Polish driver tested Williams’ latest batch of updates on Friday at the Hockenheimring but admitted afterwards that he had reservationsas the parts were “too fragile”.

The car lost a piece of its bodywork on his installation lap, leaving Kubica down in 20th place.

“We will have to revise everything and fix some parts in order [that] they stay attached to the car,” he said.

“It’s the second weekend in a row that something is breaking down.

“When you leave the garage and already on installation lap you are compromised, and it was very important for us to do our programme, which we set up, unfortunately we were influenced by this straight away, so it was not an easy day today.

“We hope we can fix it, we were a bit too fragile, that’s how it is.”

Williamsexamined the car after Friday’s second practice and found an issue with the chassis resulting in the team opting to swap Kubica to the spare chassis for the remainder of the German GP weekend.

“We found some damage while rebuilding Robert’s car overnight which was not repairable at the track,” a Williams representative toldFormula1.com.

“We decided to change to the spare chassis for the rest of the weekend.”
