Zak Brown reveals when McLaren fans can expect ‘everything to be in place’

Zak Brown has told McLaren fans they can start to expect results in 2025 after the team completed a recent restructure.

The makeup of that committee was finalised on Tuesday when McLaren announced they had poached Rob Marshall away from Red Bull as one of three technical directors alongside Peter Prodromou and David Sanchez.

Both Sanchez and Marshall will not set foot inside the MTC until January though with the former serving his gardening leave from Ferrari while Marshall will continue to fulfil his chief engineering officer role at Red Bull until the end of the 2023 season.

That is why, Brown predicts, it will not be until 2025 when the team will start to challenge for wins again.

“I think we will have everything we need for the 2025 season,” Brown told the标准晚报.

“So, the only thing we won’t have in 2025 is time together. What do you need? Two great drivers — we think we have those (Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri). The right structure — we think we have that. You need the right people — we’ve identified that and we’re still hiring.

“Everything will be in place by the middle of 2024, which doesn’t bring much benefit until 2025.”

It has been two years since McLaren’s last F1 win and 11 years since they won back-to-back grands prix. Brown has been in situ since 2016 but the team currently finds itself at one of the lowest points of his tenure with the MCL60 struggling for performance.

Brown admitted that breaking into the established top three of Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull was tough but reminded that it was “not like we’ve never done it before.”

“I think we will have everything we need, so there’s no reason why we shouldn’t,” he said. “But we can’t underestimate the challenge. Think about Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull, unbelievable teams that had it all laid out for years.

“Breaking into that is tough, beating that is even tougher, but we will have everything they will and playing with the same size bat, so there’s no reason why we shouldn’t. It’s not like we’ve never done it before.”
