Sergio Perez rumours continue as Ferrari get set for Monza homecoming – F1 news round-up

The Tifosi will watch the red and yellow cars dash around the Monza circuit and, they hope, finish quicker than every other car on the grid.

Whether that comes true or not remains to be seen but if it does, they will do it in style.

Ferrari unveil special Monza livery

2023 marked a special year in Ferrari’s history as they returned to Le Mans and did so in stunning fashion, picking up their first win in 58 years.

Now it is the turn of the F1 team to make some history and they have unveiled their Monza livery which has a nod to their hypercar counterparts.

With a healthy splash of yellow, both the car and the drivers will be decked out in honour of the Le Mans victory with winners Antonio Giovinazzi and Alessandro Pier Guidi in attendance.

Pierre Gasly confirms Bruno Famin remains in charge for now

One question in the F1 paddock that needs answering is who will be the next Alpine boss with Otmar Szafnauer exiting the team after the Belgian Grand Prix.

With Szafnauer’s departure, vice-president of Alpine Motorsport Bruno Famin stepped in on an interim basis and Pierre Gasly confirmed to PlanetF1.com that will remain the case until the end of the tear.

“This is stuff which we’ll discuss internally,” he said. “But Bruno is in charge at the moment and he’s going to be in charge until the end of the year.

“I think it’s important just to work in the best way possible. We all have a common goal. We all want to put Alpine right at the top and it takes some time, it takes a lot of work and that’s where the focus will be for the rest of the season.”

Question marks over Sergio Perez’s Red Bull future

It seems not a day goes by without another rumour that Sergio Perez is facing an exit from Red Bull.

Despite Christian Horner stating the Mexican will be at the team next year, plenty of pundits have been lining up to suggest otherwise.

The latest is Ralf Schumacher who speculated that a deal had already been reached for both parties to go their separate ways.

“Sergio Perez once again made a mistake when he drove into the barriers at the entrance to the pits and this action also resulted in a penalty that cost him second place in the end,” the six-time grand prix winner wrote in his post-race Sky Deutschland column.

“I think his days at Red Bull are numbered.

“Dr. Helmut Marko is not exactly known for his warm-hearted way of dealing with Perez. I think that Perez as a guy can’t deal with that so well, that’s how I explain these serious mistakes.

“Perez looked very grumpy, disappointed, and also absent all weekend. I think that there were already agreements about a separation after the end of the season.”

Mick Schumacher admits time is running out for 2024 seat

Having left Haas at the end of 2022, Mick Schumacher has been searching for a way back onto the grid ever since but it appears he may be waiting a little while longer yet.

Speaking during the Dutch Grand Prix weekend, the German admitted time is running out for him to find a spot on the 2024 grid.

“I can’t name a timeline yet,” he said of his future. “I’m still working. Time is running out a little but I have to take my time.”

No way back for Alex Albon at Red Bull

With Alex Albon continuing to impress at Williams, his name has been linked with a lot of potential seats in the future.

But one team he will not be joining is Red Bull. The British-Thai driver drove for the Milton Keynes outfit for two seasons before being let go in favour of Sergio Perez.

Red Bull senior advisor Helmut Marko believes that is the end of their story together.

“Max’s teammate has a very tough and difficult life,” Marko told Viaplay. “Albon has already had his chance.

“He has improved remarkably since then, but at the moment there is no driver who is on Max’s level.”
