Sharing a secret, at least that’s what he called it, with Sky F1’s juniors in Hungary, Nico Rosberg wasn’t impressed when one of them promptly called him ‘Britney’ – and she did it twice!

Part of Sky Sports’ F1 broadcast team, Rosberg was joined by three juniors at the Hungaroring as Sky and Formula 1 put together a first-ever children’s broadcast.

Joined by Zac, a young go-kart racer, as well as Braydon and Scarlett, who present the Sky Kids show FYI, Rosberg shared the “secret” earlier in the broadcast that years ago he’d been nicknamed ‘Britney’ by Mark Webber.

Scarlett meet ‘Britney’

But it seems to be a moniker he’s not very fond of as, called ‘Britney’ by Scarlett, the 2016 F1 World Champion said that wasn’t “cool” and asked for an apology.

Scarlett: “Good luck Britney, I hope you do well.”
Rosberg: “No Scarlett that was not cool. I share a secret there with you guys, that was not cool at all.”
Scarlett doubled down: “Thank you Britney.”
Rosberg: “Please apologise.”
Scarlett: “Sorry.”
Rosberg: “Apology accepted.”

Rosberg then swiftly left the booth with Scarlett told by lead commentator Harry Benjamin that she was “playing with fire” calling him by this nickname.

The day ‘Britney’ arrived in Formula 1

Rosberg’s ‘Britney’ nickname was courtesy of his former Williams team-mate Webber, the Aussie unimpressed with his antics on first lap of the 2006 Brazilian Grand Prix.

Driving into the back of Webber, Rosberg suffering a broken front wing and Webber losing a piece of his rear wing, Rosberg went on to lose control of his FW28 and crash heavily.

As he passed the scene of the accident, Webber was told by the team to let Rosberg pit before he comes in for his stop, only for the Aussie to reply: “Britney’s in the wall.”

The nickname, based on Rosberg’s long blonde hair and likeness – if you squint very hard – to Britney Spears, stuck.
