Haas drivers handed 10-second time penalty

BothHaasdrivers have been handed 10-second time penalties for being assisted over the team radio on the formation lap.

The American team enjoyed their best race of the 2020 season so far in Hungary, withKevin Magnussenfinishing in P9 to score their first two points of the year.

The team’s success was largely down to the decision to pit both drivers at the end of the formation lap, meaning they started the race from the pit-lane but on dry tyres.

It proved to be an excellent call, as the rest of the field had to pit shortly afterwards, promoting them to P3 and P4.

While they did eventually drop down the order, Magnussen managed to stay in the points and come home in P9.

However, shortly after the chequered flag, it was announced that the stewards were investigating both him and his team-mate for an “alleged breach of Article 27.1 of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations, driver aids during formation lap.”

It has now been confirmed that both have been handed 10-second time penalties for receiving aid in the form of team radio messages telling them to pit during the formation lap.

On the bright side, while it does make Magnussen drop back behind Carlos Sainz, he only goes down to P10, meaning the team have still picked up their first point of the season and moved above Williams in the Constructors’ Championship.
