From Rogue One to Formula One as Felicity Jones set to star in F1 scripted series

F1 has sanctioned a scripted series that will centre a family’s dramas around the world of the Formula 1 paddock, starring Felicity Jones.

Jones, who starred in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and The Theory Of Everything, will produce drama series ‘One’, while also taking up a starring role.

Formula 1 as a company are also on board as producers, with ‘One’ set to focus on the rise of a family-owned Formula 1 team in the world of motorsport. With obvious inspirations taken from the likes of the Williams F1 lineage, the fictional series will blend the real-life world of Formula 1 with its in-series narrative.

According toDeadline.com, the series will be made by Bedrock Entertainment, the first major series created by the company, which is headed up by Tony To, Dan Sackheim, and ITV Studios America. To was a producer of Band of Brothers, while Sackheim was an executive producer on True Detective.

Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby will serve as writers and executive producers of the series, having been previously nominated for an Oscar for Children of Men, as well as writing Iron Man and creating the series The Expanse.

“Felicity is one of the most talented and engaging actresses in the world,” Isabelle Stewart, Head of Original Content at Formula 1, said.

“We are thrilled to partner with her to bring the glamorous, high-pressure, and competitive inner workings of the world of Formula 1 to life for audiences across the globe.”

Speaking of the upcoming project, Jones said, “It is an honour to be part of this unique and exciting partnership with Formula 1.

“The high-stakes world of F1 continually delivers edge-of-your-seat drama and to have the opportunity to create a show based in this world is a thrilling prospect. I feel incredibly privileged to be working alongside this talented team including Mark and Hawk, Tony and the team at Bedrock Entertainment, and the whole team at F1 to bring our story to the screen.”

Separately to that, a Brad Pitt Formula 1 movie is also in production, which is being produced by Lewis Hamilton’s newly-established Dawn Apollo Films. Apple have secured the rights, but no release date has yet been pencilled in.
