Alonso wants 2022 car in wind tunnel on Jan 1
Fernando Alonso wants Renault in the wind tunnel preparing for the 2022 regulations from January 1.
Alonso recently completed a privatetwo-day test in Bahraindriving theRenaultR.S.18 as the Spaniard prepares for his 2021 comeback with the team who will by that stage be known as Alpine.
But before that another two-day test in the 2018 Renault has been lined up for Alonso, at his request, to take place later in 2020.
“部分是他在形状和想要回来get back in the rhythm of driving a car,” Renault’s executive director Marcin Budkowski told reporters at the Turkish Grand Prix.
“But it’s an opportunity to drive and work with him on things like the steering wheel, his favourite button position, how he wants to be able to activate all the different systems on the car, practice our procedures.
“It seems simple but the more we practice these things the less we have to do during winter testing. We only have three days of running for our two days next year.”
Of course Alonso will have his eyes on 2022 under the new regulations as the first real opportunity to take a shot at a third World Championship.
And already he is pushing Renault to get their2022 carin the wind tunnel on January 1st, the first day that they will be allowed to test it under the rules.
“He’s asking about anything,” Budkowski revealed.

“[He asked]: ‘So when can you start developing?’ And we said ‘1st of January’. ‘Ok, are you running on the 1st of January?’ And I said: ‘Normally we don’t but this year we might because it’s the year’.
“He said ‘OK, we’ll have to run on 1st of January, I will come here, I can help you on the 1st of January’. So this is the level of motivation of Fernando at the moment.”

Alonso’s return to the team marks his third spell with the Enstone outfit.
His first partnership with the team was by far the most successful as Renault and Alonso ended Ferrari’s dominance of Formula 1, taking the Drivers’ and Constructors’ titles in 2005 and 2006.
He would return to the team in 2008 but managed only two race wins in two years.
