基督教霍纳has pointed the finger of blame squarely at Lando Norris for shattering Max Verstappen’s Hungarian GP victory trophy.

The broken trophy that was meant for Red Bull’s trophy cabinet after Max Verstappen’s Hungarian Grand Prix win has irked Christian Horner somewhat, with the team boss eager to send the bill of repair to McLaren.

Having won Sunday’s race in Budapest, Verstappen put his victory trophy down on the top step of the podium in order to spray the champagne. Second-place finished Lando Norris whacked his champagne against the ground near the trophy, knocking the porcelain to the ground where it broke into pieces.

基督教霍纳: Send McLaren the bill!

Appearing on the F1 Nation podcast in the wake of his team’s record-breaking 12th consecutive Grand Prix victory, Horner was asked about the moment in which the trophy got smashed.

“I think it was firmly Lando’s fault that knocked it over apparently,” he said.

“I’ve just heard it’s about 60,000 euros worth of damage that he’s done. And six months [to make] so, obviously, I said ‘send them the bill’, it’s only fair, he knocked it over!”

Norris had done the same thing at Silverstone a fortnight prior, knocking Verstappen’s winner’s trophy off the top step – the trophy remaining intact as it was made from metal, rather than porcelain.

With podcast host Lee McKenzie pointing that out to Horner, the Red Bull boss said: “I’m starting to think it’s something personal now!”

Trophy manufacturer making a new trophy

Luckily for Norris and McLaren, they won’t have to shell out any money, as trophy makers Herendi Porcelain have already committed to making Verstappen a new one.

“It is with great regret that we learned yesterday that the beautiful Herendi trophy, a handmade work of art, was damaged,” Simon toldM4 Sport.

“It is the result of nearly six months of work by more than 30 people and we were very sorry to see this happen to our artwork.

“But we believe, and Herendi Porcelain Manufactory is a company that plays a key role in building the country’s image, that we will replace the trophy for the first place winner, and while the teams decide who was at fault and who was not, we will take on the joyful and heavy burden of this.”

将花费任何钱?显然不是,因为西蒙·explained that their work is lifetime guaranteed. From start to finish, creating the trophy takes six months but, with the production of the frame body already underway, Verstappen may have his new trophy by the end of 2023.
