Max Verstappen will sleep easier after finding out what’s going to happen to his broken Hungarian GP trophy…

Verstappen was on the podium celebrating his seventh consecutive F1 race victory, and a record-breaking 12th consecutive win for Red Bull as a constructor, when his porcelain trophy was knocked from the top step by an over-exuberant Norris.

The trophy has been placed on the top step by Verstappen, who set about spraying the champagne all over the place, while Norris did his now-traditional strike of the bottle against the ground in order to achieve a champagne ‘fountain’ spraying from his bottle.

Unfortunately, the trophy fell from the top step to the ground a few feet below. Impressively, the porcelain didn’t completely shatter, but the trophy did separate into two as the bottom fell away from the main body.

The moment led to the two drivers, who are friendly with each other, joking about the incident as Norris blamed Verstappen for it, saying he placed the trophy ‘too close to the edge’.

“是的,就抓住它,”他补充道。“这倒over I guess. Not my problem – it’s his!”

And the Sky F1 cameras would capture a jovial exchange between the pair in the TV pen as Norris faced the music over his actions.

“You said it was my fault? I give you a red card,” Verstappen joked to the Brit.

“I will go to Zak [Brown, McLaren CEO] because he has got some spare money for the personnel in the team, so he can spend it on a trophy.”

Max Verstappen set to get a brand-new F1 trophy

While Verstappen’s heart was no doubt broken into as many pieces as his trophy as he viewed the detritus after Norris’ belligerence, the Dutch driver will sleep easier as he is set to get a brand new trophy.

Herendi Porcelain will make a brand new victory trophy, with CEO Attila Simon telling Hungarian media that the do-over is already in production.

“It is with great regret that we learned yesterday that the beautiful Herendi trophy, a handmade work of art, was damaged,” Simon toldM4 Sport.

“It is the result of nearly six months of work by more than 30 people and we were very sorry to see this happen to our artwork.

“But we believe, and Herendi Porcelain Manufactory is a company that plays a key role in building the country’s image, that we will replace the trophy for the first place winner, and while the teams decide who was at fault and who was not, we will take on the joyful and heavy burden of this.”

Will it cost any money? Apparently not, as Simon explained that their work is lifetime guaranteed. From start to finish, creating the trophy takes six months but, with the production of the frame body already underway, Verstappen may have his new trophy by the end of 2023.
