Aston Martin’s Mike Krack says it is “possible” teams can strip away Red Bull’s advantage within the next 12 months.

Such is Red Bull’s dominance in Formula 1 right now, they can already start looking towards 2024 in the knowledge that the 2023 title race is all but sewn up.

They are 256 points ahead of P2 Mercedes and barring a complete meltdown, they will win the Constructors’ title for a second consecutive year.

Catching Red Bull in 12 months is ‘possible’ says Mike Krack

While Red Bull can look ahead to 2024, that is not a luxury afforded to the other nine constructors. Behind the Milton Keynes outfit, there is a hotly contested race with just 56 points separating Mercedes and P4 Ferrari.

Krack, whose team’s season can already be considered a success, admitted that they plan to keep focusing on this year’s car after Formula 1 returns to action later this month.

“We are not switching off the tap,” Krack told media including PlanetF1.com. “It is full on development [of the 2023 car].

“We have set up a development plan and it was based on continuously developing the car and we follow that.”

But this insistence to focus on achieving the best possible result in 2023 could have negative effects in the future although Krack is confident that it is “possible” for his team to catch Red Bull within 12 months.

“We will try,” he said with a smile. “I think it shows that with less wind tunnel time, it is possible.

“So everybody has to look at himself and try to put his processes correctly in place to do as good so far and maybe even better than they do.”

Stability key to long-term Aston Martin success

The Formula 1 paddock was reminded once again just how quickly things can change in Spa with Alpine senior staff members Otmar Szafnauer and Alan Permane being shown the door.

Krack is Szafnauer’s successor at Aston Martin and stressed the need for stability in order for a team to be successful.

“As a team principal you’d like stability don’t you?” he said. “It is certainly very important to have a stable team and especially if you want to develop a team, you are not changing every team every five minutes.”
