Alex Albon addresses Ferrari rumours after eye-catching performances for Williams

Said to be Ferrari’s first choice should Carlos Sainz leave for Audi, Alex Albon says good rumours are “always nice” but at the end of the day they are just rumours.

As such Ferrari are looking at their options with Albon leading the running after impressing Fred Vasseur and the rest of Ferrari’s higher-ups with his points-scoring performances in the upgraded Williams FW45.

Albon brought home seventh place at the Canadian Grand Prix before going onto star at the British race where he featured inside the top-three in all three practice sessions, qualified P8 and matched that in the grand prix.

Moving onto 11 points for the season, the Thai-British racer is the reason Williams are holding down seventh place ahead of Haas and it has caught the eye of rival team bosses.

According to reports, Ferrari are very interested in signing the driver for the 2025 season, although they may be blocked from that by Williams as they have a contract with the driver that runs through to end of 2025.

But, as Albon pointed out, for now it’s all just rumours.

“Yes, I would say so,” he toldmotorsport-total.comwhen asked if it was good to hear the Ferrari rumours. “Good rumours are always nice.

“I think it just underscores that the year has been going well so far. I’m just happy to hear those things. Of course it’s just rumours, but I’m not complaining.”

But while Albon acknowledges he’s in “good shape, there’s no denying that”, he says that’s down to Williams’ 2023 improvements both with the car and the team in general.

“I know how the car felt last year. I know the areas that we struggled with. The cars don’t change that much,” he said. “The downforce can change, but the characteristics need a little more time to change.

“I feel like we’ve executed the weekends very well this year. Apart from Melbourne, there haven’t been many moments where we haven’t been able to score points when we had the chance. I have the feeling that I’m driving well, but we’re also making great progress as a team.”
