Late grid change triggered ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix

There is late movement on the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix grid after Haas opted to give Kevin Magnussen a brand new engine and gearbox for the race at Zandvoort.

Magnussen did not have the best of Saturdays, he managed to make his boss Guenther Steiner “p*ssed off” with him after crashing out in FP3 and would then go on to be knocked in Q1 in the follow-up qualifying session.

As a result, he was due to start from P18 on the grid ahead of Valtteri Bottas and Liam Lawson, but now he will start from the back of the grid after wholesale engine and gearbox changes.

Magnussen has taken a new ICE [Internal Combustion Engine], new Control Electronics, a new Energy Store, a new TurboCharger, a fresh MGU-H, exhaust and gearbox.

This is a common occurrence ahead of a race, especially by those operating from lowly starting grid positions because they will, in effect, be penalised less for taking on fresh car parts that are over the season limit. Magnussen will only drop two places as a result which is a small price to pay.

Charles Leclerc and Logan Sargeant have also had signifcant changes after their Q3 crashes but all parts fall within their allocation so no penalties will be applied.
