Guess the Grid: 1974 Swedish Grand Prix

The 1974 Race of Champions, competed at Brands Hatch in the UK.

For today’s F1 quiz, we go back to the 1974 season, in particular round seven, and challenge you to name the starting grid for that season’s Swedish Grand Prix.

The 1974 season was a true spectacle, with the championship being decided on the final day between two drivers on equal points.

The season as a whole featured six World Drivers’ Champions, although three of them were yet to win theirs as of that year.

The eventual World Champion of the season won three races throughout the year, as did two other drivers. However, despite equalling the champion for wins, the other two finished fifth and sixth in the championship.

The runner-up, who went into the final race level with the eventual champion, actually only won just once over the course of the season.

The championship victory was the drivers’ second and final of his career, and for his McLaren team, this was their first Constructors’ Championship win.

Ferrari had a very strong car that year, but it was also very unreliable. They had just brought in a completely new driver line-up, with one driver returning to the team, while the other getting his first chance competing at the front of the grid.

And it would have paid off if it weren’t for the reliability issues. He was easily the fastest man on the grid, taking nine pole positions from the 15 races in the year, but only won just once.

As for the race at hand, the 1974 Swedish grand Prix was the seventh round of the season.

It was a dominant weekend for the Tyrell team, who had both their drivers start on the front row and finish with a 1-2, although they had swapped places in the race, so the driver on pole finished second.

It was the winners’ first victory of what would be a very successful F1 career that included one World Championship.

For his team-mate, it was his first and only pole position in his career, and was also his first podium.

But going back to the start of the race, for today’s F1 quiz, can you name the starting grid for the 1974 Swedish Grand Prix?

We are looking for the front 14 drivers, not the full grid.
