Grosjean says sorry for questioning Haas’ future

Romain Grosjeanhas apologised to Haas for his “elephant in the room” comment regarding the team’s future.

At a press conference on the eve of the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, the French driver appeared to question whether Haas would still be on the grid next year – something which has been the subject of speculation in recent months.

Team boss Gunther Steiner subsequently remarked that Grosjeanshould be more concerned about his own future– he remains one of four driversyet to score a World Championship pointso far in 2020 and his contract withHaasexpires at the end of this season.

Now Grosjean has said sorry and dismissed any prospect of the matter becoming another point of drama in F1’s Netflix series Drive to Survive that has followed Haas closely.

“I’m sorry if I said anything wrong,” said Grosjean, as reported by Motorsport.com. “I didn’t want to create anything. So, no, there’s no Netflix episodes, there is no problem.

“I said something I shouldn’t have said, and then… you know, I’m sorry for the team. And all good.”

Steiner insisted he was not too angry over what Grosjean said but more amazed that his driver had chosen to raise the subject.

“我的意思是,我从来没有生气,”他解释说. “You know me. I react to something and I get over things pretty quick. I mean, I’m not upset. It was just like…I was amazed when I read it, because I wasn’t there obviously.

“So I asked, but I’m fine with him. I have no problem. If I get anybody mad if I say something not appropriate, I would have everybody mad at me. But I get over things pretty quick.

“I think he realised. It was a tough question and he answered in a way, maybe, after thinking he didn’t want to answer. And he didn’t maybe mean what he said, you know. I have no problem.”

Although Grosjean has yet to get off the mark for the campaign, Haas did open their account in the Constructors’ World Championship when Kevin Magnussen was classified 10th in Hungary. The Dane finished P9 but was demoted after receiving a time penalty.
