Aston Martin’s Mike Krack praised runaway championship leader Max Verstappen, stating “the combination between Max and that car is outstanding.”

While some Mercedes employees have tried their best to take the shine off Verstappen and Red Bull’s achievements this season, the rest of the paddock has been universal in their praise of the Dutchman.

Fernando Alonso suggested what Verstappen was doing was “underestimated” and that view is one he shares with his boss, Aston Martin principal Krack.

Verstappen notched up a 10th consecutive victory last time out in Monza, surpassing the former record of another Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel, but Toto Wolff tried his best to suggest it did not mean anything,commenting that records are only interesting for Wikipedia readers.

But one team principal who does commend Verstappen’s achievements is Krack, who suggested that the combination between the Dutchman and the car is “outstanding.”

“I think the first thing we have to acknowledge is the combination between Max and that car is outstanding,” he told media inducing PlanetF1.com.

“And I think also Fernando alluded to that, it is maybe not even recognised so the level is very high.”

Aston Martin are one of the teams who have ambitions of beating Verstappen and Red Bull as they search for their first title but Krack has maintained closing the gap is possible.

“I’m not saying that they have to be in trouble to [lose a race], we have to see how good they will develop over the next races,” he added.

“But I saw those situations also before, if this happens, you have to be in the position to then pick it up and there have now been four, five, six races where we have not been in that position.

“So I think that’s why we need to stay humble and do our best and see what happens.”
