McLaren teammates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri racing for position at the Italian Grand Prix.

Timo Glock is “curious” to see how the McLaren rivalry plays out as Oscar Piastri begins to put more pressure on Lando Norris.

Introducing an upgraded MCL60 at the Austrian Grand Prix, Norris and Piastri surged forward into the podium battle with Norris second at Silverstone, and again in Hungary, while Piastri’s Sundays were undone by strategy.

In Hungary, the rookie was undone by an undercut from his teammate with Nico Rosberg calling it “unfair”. That there was more of the same at Monza could add to growing tension.

The McLaren teammates were running close together throughout the first stint of the Italian Grand Prix with Norris behind Piastri, only for the Briton to pit first in an attempted undercut.

The team came out almost side-by-side after Piastri’s stop and they battled for position into the first chicane where they bounced off one another.

Team bossAndrea Stella wasn’t impressed, telling the media including PlanetF1.com: “There should never ever be contact between two McLaren cars. There was contact, which doesn’t fit the way we go racing at McLaren.”

Norris came out ahead of his teammate and raced to eighth place while Piastri’s grand prix was ruined by a clash with Lewis Hamilton, all ill-judged pass from the Mercedes driver breaking the McLaren’s front wing. Piastri finished outside of the points in 12th place.

Glock has questioned whether the Aussie’s patience at being second best is wearing thin.

“I’m curious to see how it develops because Oscar Piastri is getting closer and also wants his chances. I can understand his displeasure there by being strategically placed behind Norris,” the former F1 driver wrote in hisSky Deutschlandcolumn.

He’s also questioned whether their growing rivalry has led to Norris’ recent frustrations with McLaren, the Briton launching an expletive-filled rant at the team at the previous race in the Netherlands.

“I’ve noticed that Lando Norris is annoyed or comes across as annoyed on the radio in several races,” the German added.

“Whether he means it or not, you never know in the heat of the moment. But it’s an issue because now he has a teammate who puts a bit of pressure on him and drives at his level.”

He warned: “You can wait for things to get a bit more turbulent at McLaren.”

The drivers were quick to downplay Sunday’s argy-bargy with Piastri saying“nothing happened”while Norris insists “we respect each other, we give each other space and [it’s] unfortunate but nothing happened”.
