Max is not the only Verstappen in driving action at the Red Bull Ring

Jos Verstappen is set to join his son Max on track at the Austrian Grand Prix next weekend at the Red Bull Ring.

Next week’s race at the Red Bull Ring will be one of several ‘home’ events for Red Bull and Max Verstappen this year, with the track owned by the Red Bull parent company – one of the country’s biggest exporters.

Verstappen has become a hero of the crowd as he’s won three of the last five Austrian Grands Prix, as well as one of the Styrian Grands Prix held at the same venue, while also delivering Honda’s first win in the modern era by claiming victory at the 2019 Austrian race.

But while the grandstands will be packed full of Dutch fans making the trip from the Netherlands to Austria, Max won’t be the only Verstappen ready to greet the crowd’s enthusiasm, as Jos Verstappen has also agreed to take part in some track action.

Jos, a respected F1 racer in his own right back in the 1990s and early 2000s, will take part in the ‘Legends Parade’, where six historical F1 cars from the 1960s and ’70s will take to the famously scenic Red Bull Ring for a demonstration run.

Red Bull have organised several of these runs on occasion in the years since their eponymous circuit returned to the F1 calendar back in 2014, with Niki Lauda a mainstay of the occasion until his sad passing in 2019.

Verstappen will drive a 1972 McLaren M8F Can-Am machine, as will Indy 500 winner and F1 racer winner Juan Pablo Montoya. Austrian racer Alexander Wurz will drive a similar McLaren M8C, while David Coulthard will helm a McLaren M6B.

Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko will also make an appearance, as he’ll drive in the Legends Parade in a 1980 BRM 157 Can-Am car.

The parades will be held on Saturday and Sunday, taking place at 18:05 local time on Saturday evening, and pre-race on Sunday at 12:25 local time.
