Daniel Ricciardo shares update following surgery after Dutch Grand Prix crash
Daniel Ricciardo has shared a picture following surgery after breaking a metacarpal in his left hand at Zandvoort on Friday.
The AlphaTauri driver was sent to hospital after crashing at Turn 3 in FP2 on Friday at the Dutch Grand Prix, but it later transpired that he had broken a bone in his hand.
Red Bull junior driver Liam Lawson was called up to replace the Australian for his Formula 1 debut, and Ricciardo flew to Barcelona for surgery.

Ricciardo has seen renowned specialist Dr Xavier Mir – the same doctor who facilitated Lance Stroll’s swift return to action after breaking his wrist in the weeks running up to the start of the season.
And after going in for surgery, Ricciardo shared a photo of himself in a hospital bed, and believes this is all a part of his comeback process.

Red Bull team principalChristian Horner hintedearlier in the weekend that Ricciardo may target the Singapore Grand Prix in mid-September as a comeback race, but ordinarily this kind of injury would take up to 12 weeks to recover.
But Formula 1 drivers being the athletes that they are, Horner believes Ricciardo will be targeting a far quicker turnaround than that.

“They bounce back pretty quickly,” Horner told Sky F1 on Saturday. “So he’s headed off to Barcelona. They may even have a little operation on him tomorrow to just tidy up where that break is – it’s quite a clean break.
“Then, of course, it’s all about the recuperation and how long that takes. Any normal human being will probably be about 10 to 12 weeks, but we know that these guys aren’t normal.
“So then it’ll all be about the recovery process. How long that will take, you know, is it going to be three weeks? Is it a month? Is it six weeks? Nobody really knows.”
