Such is the downforce created by these Formula 1 cars that a bloodied Alex Albon could “feel my skin ripping” during British GP qualifying.

Albon generated plenty of attention heading into qualifying day after a storming performance in Friday practice, putting his Williams P3 in both the FP1 and FP2 timings.

And while the Anglo-Thai driver could not repeat such heroics come Q3, he nonetheless scored a very respectable P8 on the grid in the Williams FW45.

But, that Q3 appearance was not the only focus when it came to Albon’s post-qualifying media appearances, as the Sky F1 team noticed his back was in quite the state after the session, with blood visible on his racewear over a large lump.

后天空F1主持人西蒙告诉埃尔拉他was informed that he may have picked up an injury out on track, Albon replied: “It’s all the downforce. I have some rather big lumps on my back, is it bad?”

Following Albon’s revel that such lumps occur naturally on his back, he made the painful claim that it felt like his skin was being ripped as he flung that Williams through the turns of Silverstone.

After Lazenby, 2009 F1 World Champion Jenson Button and former W Series driver Naomi Schiff all confirmed to him that the damage did look bad, Albon added: “It’s all the downforce we have, it just sometimes confuses you.

“It’s disgusting, if I show you my back, I’ve got lumps and bumps everywhere. I think because I’m tall, and to get into the car, to get positioned properly, I’m basically quite rounded in my shoulders and my bones stick out.

“Seriously, through corners like Maggotts and Becketts, it sounds disgusting, but I can feel my skin ripping as I go through the corner.”

Asked if he is concerned about it for race day, Albon replied: “No, it happens every race. I’m used to it now.

“My tissue breaks and then repairs just in time for the next weekend, but then it tears open again.”

Albon will be hoping to fight through the pain at Silverstone on Sunday to claim a third points finish of the F1 2023 campaign.
