Silverstone offered to host up to 12 F1 races.

Silverstone boss Stuart Pringle says the circuit are considering using cardboard cut-outs of fans during their two races this season.

With both F1 races at the venue set to take place with no fans in attendance, there is the risk that the race weekends may feel a little flat compared to the usualparty atmosphere at Silverstone.

But sports around the world are of course having to adjust to the ‘new normal’, and right now that means playing with no fans there to watch.

An idea which the Bundesliga tried, that being to have cardboard cut-outs of fans in their seats, drummed up plenty of attention.

And Pringle is “up for” doing the same at Silverstone when Formula 1 makes itstwo visits.

“We have looked at things and I’m certainly not short of people trying to sell me interesting novel ideas, particularly printing companies seeking to replicate the Bundesliga cardboard crowd thing, which actually is great and I’m up for,” he toldBBC Radio 5 Live.

“We’re in the entertainment business, we want to retain a relationship with the fans. We want to keep them as involved as possible, and, of course, that’s a lot easier in the digital age. We’ll be doing an awful lot on our website and social channels and things like that.

“But if there is a way that practically we could involve people, be it a video wall or the cardboard crowd on the seats, absolutely we’ll look at it. We are exploring all of those things.”
