Ralf sums it up for Mick: That was not a good race
From a best-ever grid slot to a point-less Sunday, Ralf Schumacher hasn’t minced his words about his nephew Mick Schumacher’s mistakes at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
Schumacher lined up a career-best P10 on the Imola grid, the Haas driver dreaming of a first top-ten finish.
It was not to be.
The German got it wrong off the line, touched the wet gravel and spun, effectively putting Fernando Alonso out of the grand prix in the process as he damaged the Alpine’s sidepod.
Trying to recover that positions he had lost, Schumacher had a second spin at the Variante Alta as he touched the grass and lost control of his VF-22.
He told theGerman edition of Motorsport.com: “I thought I could control it but unfortunately I couldn’t.”
His uncle was a tad harsher in his criticism, the Sky pundit saying: “That shouldn’t happen. He is much too late on the brakes and made the mistake.”

“I think he just has to review the whole weekend,” he added. “It’s fair to say that most of the time he was a little behind Magnussen’s performance.
“This time it was a slightly worse weekend.”
Summing up why, Ralf toldF1-Insider: “If you start from a point position, lose control of the car twice and finish second to last, you can’t call it a good race.”
WhileSchumacherfinished down in 17th place, his team-mate Kevin Magnussen was back in the points as he finished in ninth place.
It was the Dane’s third top-ten of the season, Schumacher yet to get off the mark.
“We had the pace to at least stay close to tenth place,” Schumacher admitted after the race. “Maybe I went too close into Turn 2/3 and took too many risks after a bad start.
“I pushed hard to make up time, and even if I hadn’t lost the car in the chicane, it wouldn’t have changed my position.”
Asked whether his frustration over his results was mounting, he said: “It’s not about getting frustrated.
“It sucks because of course I want to finish in the points and fight with the top guys. We had the car for it today, but once things start going wrong, it’s like an avalanche.
“I’m waiting for the good moments now.”
