Pierre Gasly was furious with Carlos Sainz after the Ferrari man appeared to impede him late on in Q1.

Alpine predicted Gasly was heading for a P6 finish during the first qualifying session of the Canadian Grand Prix when he arrived into traffic chaos on the final corner.

The issue was caused by Sainz who was preparing to start a flying lap but in doing so blocked his former team-mate Lando Norris and Gasly who was forced to dive off the track to avoid contact.

Gasly was subsequently eliminated from Q1 shortly before the stewards announced Sainz would be investigated after the session.

The Frenchman immediately went on to the team radio to fume at Sainz, suggesting the Spaniard should receive a race ban.

“He should be banned for such a thing!” Gasly shouted. “I’m coming at 300 [kph]. What the f**k do they think?”

Gasly’s team boss Otmar Szafnauer later described it as “ridiculous” to Sky Sports F1.

“It’s just ridiculous, terrible,” Szafnauer said. “I think Pierre would have been P6 and now he’s out in Q1.”
