Christian Horner addresses F1 fans who are fed up with ‘predictable’ Red Bull wins

Red Bull boss Christian Horner knows fan may be a little tired of his team’s Formula 1 dominance, but stressed the significance of their history-making run.

红牛已经打破了之前的记录by McLaren for most wins in a row with their 12th in Hungary, and the Belgian Grand Prix showed that the era of Red Bull is showing no signs of fizzling out.

From P6 on the grid, due to a five-place grid drop for a gearbox change, Max Verstappen went on to win by 22 seconds over Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez who ensured the Red Bull one-two, that Verstappen’s eighth win in a row.

Formula 1 now goes into the summer break with the title double for Red Bull pretty much secured already, and Horner understandably heaped praise on his team as they continue to set a standard which the rest of the grid cannot contend with.

“It’s been the most amazing first-half of the season, we’re over halfway now,” Horner told Sky F1.

“It’s all about teamwork and about everybody doing their best and that’s what the team has done in these first 12 races of the year, and so to go in unbeaten into the summer break is mind-blowing.

“团队操作,我们just need to keep this level going. Everybody deserves a well-earned break over the next couple of weeks, recharge the batteries and then come back hard.

“Zandvoort, that’ll be a crazy race and Monza and then the international races. So we just want to keep the momentum going. We’re taking it one race at a time and great to see another one-two today.”

Considering that these ground effect regulations, combined with the budget cap and wind tunnel testing scale, were designed to bunch the pack up, it has been something of an anti-climax to see Red Bull leave all other teams in the dust.

Horner knows the “predictable” results will not be welcomed by the fans, but was keen to address the situation from Red Bull’s point of view.

“We’ve won 20 [races] out of the last 21, I mean it’s an incredible achievement,” said Horner.

“I know it might not be popular with the fans because it’s predictable, but we’re just focused on trying to extract the best that we can.

“And it’s a very special moment for this team because it’s historic, 1988 was the last time that anything like this was achieved, and to think that we’ve been the team that have been able to break that is something we could have only dreamed about.”

Reflecting on Perez’s race specifically, Horner said the start and first stint for the Mexican racer, who took the lead from Charles Leclerc, was strong, but then Verstappen simply “came alive” as both dropped the chasing pack.

“I thought his start, his first lap was excellent,” said Horner.

“The first stint I think he was going okay, I think the medium tyre he wasn’t as comfortable on us as Max and it was after that first pit stop that Max really came alive and then it was a question of managing things to the end of the race.”

Verstappen is now 125 points clear of Perez at the top of theDrivers’ Championship.
