显示:McLaren will debut ‘noticeably different’ MCL60 spec

McLaren will field a “noticeably different” Formula 1 car later in the season, team boss Andrea Stella has confirmed.

After introducing their first round of upgrades to the MCL60 at last month’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix, McLaren will run a much more comprehensive upgrade package in the coming weeks.

The team are currently fifth in the Constructors’ Championship, courtesy of a hefty double points finish in Australia after a chaotic end to the race helped elevate their two drivers.

When are the upgrades coming to the MCL60?

McLaren fans will have to wait at least three more races for the Woking-based squad to roll out the next significant upgrade package for their car.

Speaking toAustralian publication Speedcafe, team boss Andrea Stella the plan is to have the upgrades ready for the ninth and 10th rounds of the championship.

“We are working on delivering the main round of upgrades between Austria and Silverstone,” Stella said.

“It will be a very noticeably different car. We hope to do another round post [summer] shutdown.”

The Austrian and British Grands Prix take place in early July, with the Red Bull Ring playing host to its race on July 2nd, and Silverstone a week later on July 9th.

McLaren have shown up in Monaco with an eye-catching car, mainly due to its ‘Triple Crown’ unique livery for this race, but the car does feature some extra rear winglets in a bid to increase downforce at the back of the car.

McLaren’s struggles so far in 2023 have resulted in a major restructuring of their technical department, following an internal review carried out by Stella.

This resulted in technical director James Key being replaced, with McLaren putting in a new structure that sees three people assume responsibility for the oversight of the team’s technical requirements.
