Lewis Hamilton has taken it up a notch with his Japanese Grand Prix edition helmet which features a light-up visor.

With drivers formerly restricted in the number of helmet designs that can be used throughout a season, that ruling was axed in time for the 2020 season, leading to an array of special edition helmets being run across the calendar.

And now Hamilton has taken it to a new level with his Japanese GP lid. Absolutely awesome or over the top? We will let you decide.

Lewis Hamilton unveils Japanese Grand Prix helmet

Hamilton took to social media ahead of the race weekend at Suzuka to unveil the helmet he will be running on track, one of the likes we have not seen before.

Designed in collaboration with Japanese illustrator Hajime Sorayama, the most unique feature undoubtedly is the fluorescent strip on the centre of the visor, which allows the helmet to illuminate.

That would have been quite the sight at a night race like Singapore where Formula 1 was last in action before Japan, though with dry conditions expected in the Suzuka daytime, the studio shots will likely do the best job of displaying the helmet in all its glory when the light goes on.

汉密尔顿希望红牛把新加坡woes behind them and return to dominant ways at Suzuka, though should a victory opportunity present itself, then Hamilton knows how to get the job done at this venue.

Hamilton is in fact a five-time winner of the Japanese Grand Prix, four of those wins achieved at Suzuka with his most recent triumph coming in 2018.
